Doctors
Dr. Philip MacMahon
Dr. MacMahon was born in Dublin and educated by the Jesuits in Gonzaga College Dublin. Dr. MacMahon went to college in UCD. Post graduate education was received in Scotland, New Zealand and Northern Ireland. Dr. MacMahon then practiced for two years in Strabane, Co. Tyrone before opening his own practice with his wife Rosemary in Ranelagh Dublin, where they continue to practice today.
His particular interests include Cardiology, Psychiatry, and Cryotherapy.
Dr. Justin Smyth
Dr. Smyth is a graduate of Medicine from University College Dublin, 2000. Dr Smyth completed a full-time Masters in Sports Medicine in Trinity College in 2002 after which he spent 3 years in hospital posts as part of general practice training. He then went to Edinburgh in 2005 and completed the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2006. Dr Smyth has worked extensively with the Football Association of Ireland since 2003 as a Sports Medicine specialist. He is currently working with the Irish Under 17 Boys soccer team. He also worked as Medical Officer for the Irish Mens Tennis Open in 2007. Dr Smyth is a founding member of the Irish Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine which was established through the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.
Dr Smyth has a special interest in Sports Medicine with particular emphasis on the condition of Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis). He also has a special interest in Mens health.
Dr Jean Gallagher
Dr Gallagher graduated from University College Dublin in 2001. She took part in a General Medical scheme from 2002 to 2004 and achieved membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003. In October of 2005, Dr Gallagher completed a Diploma in Medicine for the Elderly. Between the years of 2005 and 2008, Dr Gallagher completed a Trinity College and HSE General Practice vocational training scheme. She is currently becoming a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners.
Dr Gallagher has special interests in all aspects of Women’s Health e.g. Family Planning including the use of Implanon implant contraception and the Mirena Coil, Dermatology and Minor surgery including ingrown toenail wedge resection.
Dr Debbie Fitzgerald
Dr Fitzgerald graduated from University College Dublin in 2001. As part of her General Practice Training, she worked in Australia for 2 years and then rotated through many Dublin hospitals to gain vast experience in all areas pertinent to General Practice. She completed her training in Manchester and became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2008. During her training, she also completed the following diplomas: Diploma in Medicine for the Elderly, Diploma of Child Health, Diploma in Dermatology and Diploma in Family Planning. She has a special interest in Dermatology, Paediatrics and Womens Health.
Practice nurses
Susan Jestin
Susan trained as a general nurse in the Adelaide hospital, Dublin. She spent some time in Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross Hospice and some time overseas in South Africa. She qualified with a H. Dip in Midwifery from the Coombe Women’s Hospital in 2001. She joined the MacMahon's Practice in 2002. Susan is a keen Leinster Rugby supporter.
Elaine Corcoran
Elaine began her nurse training in St. James Hospital and graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Trinity College Dublin. Since then she has spent much of her nursing career working in the area of Oncology and Radiotherapy. She travelled and worked in Australia for 3 years and while living there, she completed a course in sexual and women’s health and worked at the Canberra sexual health and family planning clinic. She also has a qualification in massage therapy. Elaine joined Ranelagh Medical in 2010 job sharing with Susan. Elaine like Susan is a keen rugby supporter and she also likes to travel.

Caoimhe McDonald (BSc Human Nutrition & Dietetics M.I.N.D.I.) is our resident Dietician and Nutritionist at Ranelagh Medical.
